Our iPhone is not only a device thanks to which we can freely call, write messages, surf the net or take pictures. It is actually a pocket computer on which we keep a lot of information and data about us. Data that we can easily lose. Losing or stealing an iPhone or iPad can happen to us anytime. Although there are ways to track our device and delete it remotely, nobody will return lost data. That’s why it’s a good idea to have them backed up. How do I backup my iPhone?
Backup in iCloud
- Connect the device to a Wi-Fi network.
- Go to Settings> [Your name], then tap iCloud.
- Tap Backup in iCloud.
- Tap Backup now. Do not disconnect from the Wi-Fi network until the process is completed.
You can check the progress and confirm the backup. Select Settings> [Your name]> iCloud> iCloud Archive. Under the Create backup heading you will now see the date and time of the last backup.
Backup in iTunes
Creating a backup of our iPhone or iPad is a matter of several to several dozen minutes. If you want to create a backup of your iPhone locally on your computer, it is best to make it via iTunes for OS X or Windows. Thanks to a local backup, we can save all the data that is on the device, regardless of its origin. We can also restore them using iTunes.
How to make a backup in iTunes
- We connect the iPhone to the computer with a USB cable, and then launch iTunes.
- We find the iPhone shaped icon in the program and click on it. The program takes us to the device view.
- In the iPhone view we find the Backups section. From the options listed, select This computer.
- Then click the Archive now button. If we have any applications that have not been installed by iTunes, the program will ask you to archive them. After receiving the authorization, the backup of our iPhone will start.
Depending on the capacity of the iPhone, the copying process can take from several to several dozen minutes. The program ripped all data, including music and movies, which unfortunately continues. From the Backup section view, you can also restore the archived backup on a given device by proceeding as above and selecting the Restore backup button.
Encrypt backup in iTunes
Before or after backing up your iPhone or iPad via iTunes, we can additionally protect it. Encrypting a backup protects your data if, for some reason, you lose your computer or hard disk where the backup resides. How to do it?
- We connect the iPhone to the computer with a USB cable, and then launch iTunes.
- We find the iPhone shaped icon in the program and click on it. The program takes us to the device view.
- In the iPhone view we find the Backups section. Among the listed options, we choose Encrypt iPhone backup.
- We enter and repeat the password, which we will later use to decrypt the backup. ITunes will archive our iPhone by encrypting the copy.
