UK: Funding for International Undergraduate Students at Univ. of Oxford
A limited number of awards are availablefor overseas students who obtain a place for undergraduate study in October2006 and details are given below. Further information may be found on theStudent Funding and International Office web page (www.admin.ox.ac.uk/io/). Details ofscholarships for overseas students offered by colleges of the University may beobtained from individual colleges.
A small number of full and partialDulverton Scholarships will be available for students of outstanding merit andfinancial need from Eastern/Central European countries (namely Albania, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia, Bulgaria, Croatia, Georgia, Macedonia, Moldova, Romania, Ukraine, Serbia and Montenegro).
A number of awards will be available forstudents who are nationals of and resident in the Russian Federation taking up places to read for a Second BA or postgraduate degree ofthe University in October 2006. Candidates should have a first degree from aRussian university and should not have taken any subsequent degree. Thescholarship may be held in any subject area. Candidates should not normally bemore than 25 years of age and should be intending to return to Russia atthe end of their period of study.
Awards will cover University and collegefees, travel to and from the UK, andprovide a maintenance grant. Further information is available on theFoundation's website: www.hillfoundationscholarships.org
One or more full or partial awards, fundedjointly by the Noon Educational Foundation, the University and the Oxford andCambridge Society, Karachi, Educational Trust, is expected to be available for students from Pakistanentering or currently studying for a degree at Oxford. Thescholarships may be held in any subject area, except Medicine. Preference willbe given to candidates who have not already begun their course at Oxford.
Scholarships will be available in 2006-7for Armenian nationals or those of Armenian descent (one or both parents mustbe Armenian nationals) for study at the University of Oxford. Thescholarships are tenable for study in the Humanities (Classical Languages andLiterature, Ancient History, English, Modern Languages, Modern History), theMedical Sciences, the Mathematical and Physical Sciences, Biochemistry, Law,Economics, or Politics. Students wishing to follow certain joint degrees suchas Philosophy, Politics and Economics will also be eligible. Candidates shouldbe under 20 years of age on 1 October 2006.
The award will cover full fees and providea maintenance grant of £6,000 p.a.
The closing date for applications for theDulverton, Hill, Noon and Manoukian scholarships will be 22 February 2006. The forms may be obtained from the Student Funding andInternational Office after 5 January 2006 (emailinternational.office@admin.ox.ac.uk). They will also be available fordownloading from the web from the same date at www.admin.ox.ac.uk/io/
A small number of full or partial WaverleyScholarships will be available for students of oustanding academic merit andpotential from economically disadvantaged countries as judged by per capita GDPwho require financial assistance to enable them to take up their places at Oxford to read fora first undergraduate degree. Awards will be restricted to students liable topay fees at the overseas rate except that refugees settled in an EU country whoare eligible to pay fees at the home rate may also be considered. The awardsmay be held for study in any subject area. Further information aboutapplication procedures will be available in January 2006 from the website www.admin.ox.ac.uk/io or from theStudent Funding and International Office or the address below.
A number of Oxford collegesoffer scholarships to students from developing countries who, for political orfinancial reasons, or because equivalent educational facilities do not exist,cannot study for a degree in their own countries. This scheme is only suitablefor candidates of the highest academic ability who have outstanding examinationresults. However, financial need and social commitment are also major criteriafor selection.
The scholarships are largely financed byundergraduates (jointly with colleges and the University) and cover Universityand college fees and provide a maintenance grant. Awards are not tenable toread medicine due to the length and expense of this course.
