A new twoyear scholarship for an IB Diploma student joining SouthbankInternational School in September 2005 is now available.
Thisis an opportunity for a talented and deserving student, who would nototherwise be able to afford to attend Southbank International School,to study for the International Baccalaureate at the school'sWestminster campus in Portland Place, London W1. The scholarship isawarded annually by the Milton Toubkin Scholarship Trust and covers thetwo years of study leading to the IB Diploma.
Thescholarship will be awarded on a ‘needs blind' basis. In other wordsthe selection committee will make its decision without knowing thefinancial position of the candidates. The actual value of thescholarship, once the winning candidate has been selected, will varyfrom 25% to 100% of Southbank's tuition fees and will depend on thestudent's financial circumstances.
In selecting the candidate the Trust will be looking for a student who possesses some of the following qualities:
- Outstanding academic ability, potential and achievement
- Creativity, enterprise and motivation
- Leadership and commitment to the welfare of others
- An international outlook
TheInternational Baccalaureate is widely recognised by universitiesthroughout the world, including Britain, as an entrance qualification.Students study six subjects, three at higher level and three atstandard level. These subjects include a first and second language,mathematics, a science and a humanities course. Thus the IB Diploma hasboth breadth and depth. In addition students study the Theory ofKnowledge and must be involved in community service as well as creativeand physical activities. (This is known as CAS - Creativity, Action,Service.)
