Finnish Studies and Research/Scholarshipsfor Advanced Studies of the Finnish Language at Finnish Universities
CIMOoffers scholarships for advanced studies of the Finnish language atFinnish universities. The scholarships are meant mainly for degreestudents of Finnish language and literature at universities outsideFinland. Preference is given to applicants who are working on theirMaster's thesis.
Scholarshipmay be applied for one academic semester (4-5 months). The monthlyallowance is 725 € (in 2004). No additional allowance for housing ispaid. The scholarship holder is also responsible for expenses due tointernational travel to and from Finland.
How to apply?
Studentsapply directly to CIMO for the grant. Application deadlines are inApril for the autumn semester and in October for the Spring semester.The applicant must establish contact with the host universitydepartment before applying. The application should preferably be madein Finnish. It should include the following documents and translationsof them (Finnish or English):
- CV
- summary of studies
- language certificate
- confirmation letter from the host department
- study plan
- two letters of recommendation
- The application form (Word)
Pleasesave the application form in your own computer before filling in yourdata. The form should be type/word-processed throughout. To movebetween different fields, use the "Tab" key. Relevant boxes can beticked by using the "Space" key or the left-hand mouse button. Aftercompleting the form, please print and sign it.
Other Possibilities and Programmes
Ifyou are enrolled in a university or a polytechnic in your home countryand wish to come to Finland for a short study period, you may make useof the exchange programmes that your home department or university ispartaking.
Forinstance, CIMO offers the FIRST - Finnish-Russian Student ExchangeProgramme and the NORTH-SOUTH Higher Education Network Programme, whichpromote student mobility between Finland and Russia and between Finlandand several developing countries.
Inaddition, exchange students can come to Finland through EU programmessuch as Socrates/Erasmus and Leonardo da Vinci. Students from the otherNordic countries can take advatage of the Nordplus scheme, whilestudents from the USA may participate in the ISEP programme.
