Barbara Wiedner and Dorothy Vandercook Memorial Peace Scholarship

Since1993, Grandmothers for Peace International has awarded scholarships tostudents across the United States. Scholarships have also been awardedto three students in Africa, two students in Kyrgyzstan (formerly partof the U.S.S.R.), and students in Canada, Norway, and the Ukraine.

Ourstated goal was to provide four $250 scholarships per year. However,due to the wonderful generosity of members and friends, we have beenable to award a total of 129 scholarships (including eight for $500). This year we again plan to award at least one $500 scholarship.

These are the requirements:

1. Be a high school senior or in your first year of college.
2. Complete the application form.
3. Writea brief autobiography of your activities relating to peace and socialjustice, nuclear disarmament issues, and conflict resolution. Includesome proof of these activities (e.g., copies of newspaper articles,verification by your references).
4. Include two letters of recommendation.
5. Describe how you will contribute to a peaceful and just society in the future.

There are no grade point or age requirements, and students from any country may apply.

Applications must be postmarked by March 1st, 2005. Application forms for the year 2005 are now available for downloading, or send a STAMPED self-addressed envelope to the address below. Students will need to submit proof of college registration before an award is sent to them.
