TIACA establishes scholarship fund in memory of Walter H. Johnson, Jr.

The InternationalAir Cargo Association (TIACA) is pleased to announce that the Walter H.Johnson, Jr. Scholarship Award 2006, a $25,000 scholarship, is open fornominations. The scholarship was initiated in memory of Walter H.Johnson, Jr. a former TIACA President and Chairman of the Association'sEducation Committee who sadly passed away.

The scholarship willbe awarded to a PhD candidate in logistics, aviation management,transportation, international business, law or related fields whosedissertation focus is on air commerce. The student receiving the awardwill be expected to complete the PhD requirements of the Universitymaking the nomination. The award is to be used for research, and otherexpenses related to the completion of the proposed topic.

Please note that allnominations must be received before March 30, 2006. TIACA will selectthe awardee by May 15, 2006. The head of the school must provide, inwriting, reasons why the school accepted the proposed thesis topic andwhy the individual student is being recommended for the scholarship.Please address it to the attention of Dora Kay, Chairman of theEducation Committee, The International Air Cargo Association, P.O. The selection of thewinning student by TIACA's Education Committee will be based on acompetition among the nominated candidates. The student's proposedthesis will be the primary source of information used to select thewinner. It will be evaluated with respect to the topic's relevance,timeliness and usability. Academic and professional recommendationswill also be considered. The candidate proposal should include the nameand qualifications of the student and a 5 to 10 page summary of thethesis. Qualifications also include graduate course transcripts andrecommendations from professors and masters and doctoral advisors.

TIACA will provide acopy of the winning thesis paper to its Trustee members and it will beplaced on the TIACA website for other members to view. The student andschool retain the right to publish the paper as they wish once it hasbeen completed and submitted to TIACA. The winner will be formallyannounced at TIACA's Executive Conference and Annual General Meetingand at the International Air Cargo Forum in Calgary, Canada September2006.
