USA: PhD Fellowships in Theoretical Neuroscience

Graduate Study in the Center for Theoretical Neuroscience at Columbia University

For graduate fellowships: Note that our Center does not itself constitute a Ph.D.-granting program. Rather, you can do your Ph.D. research in our Center while enrolled in, and otherwise meeting the requirements of, a Columbia Ph.D.-granting program. Our Center can provide top candidates with a fellowship to support their Ph.D. studies.

Thus, to apply for graduate fellowships: Please apply to a Ph.D. program at Columbia, probably Neurobiology and Behavior, but perhaps one of the other Medical School Ph.D. programs or the M.D.-Ph.D. program, or the Applied Mathematics, Bioengineering (see also Paul Sajda’s home page), Biology, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering (see also Aurel Lazar’s home page), Physics, or Statistics program. Separately, notify us that you wish to be considered for a fellowship in Theoretical Neuroscience by sending email with a letter explaining which program you’ve applied to, why you intend to pursue Theoretical Neuroscience in your graduate work, and what background you bring to it. Please also include a copy of your application materials, and ask your referees to send us copies of their letters. Send to andrew@neurotheory.columbia.edu (please include your name and “graduate fellowship, CTN” in the subject line) or you may send a hard copy to:

Andrew Fink
Center for Theoretical Neuroscience
Center for Neurobiology and Behavior
Columbia University
1051 Riverside Drive, Box 87
New York, NY 10032

Note that the priority application deadline for most programs is either Jan. 3 or 5 or, for engineering programs, Dec. 15. However, all of the programs continue to consider applications submitted after the priority deadline; strong applicants should not be deterred from applying because of a late date.
