USA: MA Fellowships in Coexistence and Conflict

MA in Coexistence and Conflict Slifka Fellowships

The Master’s Program in Coexistence and Conflict at Brandeis University is pleased to announce the availability of four Slifka MA Fellowships for the 2006-2007 academic year. These scholarships are available for early to mid-level career professionals, who are working full time within a government or inter-governmental organization. In their positions, candidates must be working on, or intending to work on, issues of coexistence and conflict.

The Slifka Fellows will join graduate students from all over the world at Brandeis University in an interdisciplinary study of coexistence and conflict issues. The Fellow will complete an Academic Year-in-Residence at Brandeis (September – May), followed by a three-month field placement (which can be undertaken in the home organization) and completion of a master’s paper by December.

The award includes full tuition and $10,000 towards living and other expenses for the Year-in-Residence at Brandeis. Self-nominations are accepted. The application deadline is January 31st for the academic year 2006-7.

Applications (to be submitted by the applicant) should include:
* A Letter of Interest in the MA Slifka Fellowship that discusses their proposed work on coexistence and conflict issues within their organization, and why doing the MA in Coexistence and Conflict will help them to be successful in undertaking the work.
* Each application must also be accompanied by a letter from their government/organization which confirms that the applicant is applying for the scholarship with the agreement and support of their organization.
* A completed Application Form (which can be downloaded from our website or submitted on-line, or faxed or mailed.)
* Curriculum Vitae (CV) or Resume
* Three original letters of recommendation, at least one professional and one academic.
* College transcripts from undergraduate and any graduate studies.
* A score report from IELTS or the “Test of English as a Foreign Language” (TOEFL) must be submitted if English is NOT the candidate’s native language. However, if s/he has completed a university-level degree where English was the language of instruction, s/he may be exempted from the TOEFL.
* An interview, either in person or by telephone will be required for admission.
* A US$60.00 application fee made payable to Brandeis University. This fee is waived for applicants from developing countries. You cannot apply online if you want to have your application fee waived. You must send in a paper application.
