UNESCO/Keizo Obuchi Fellowships

UNESCO(United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) iscalling on young researchers with advanced degrees (M.A., M.Sc. orequivalent) in developing countries to apply to the UNESCO/Keizo ObuchiResearch Fellowship Programme for fellowships ranging from USD $6,000to USD $10,000. The amount varies according to duration and place ofstudy. The duration of the research studies could be between 3 months(minimum) to 9 months (maximum).

Through this programme, UNESCOgrants a total of 20 fellowships a year to researchers in four areas:environment, intercultural dialogue, information and communicationtechnologies, and peaceful conflict resolution.

A maximum of tworesearchers, no older than 40, will be chosen by each NationalCommission. A selection committee made up of experts in the four studyareas will then examine the applications and make preliminaryrecommendations to the Director-General.

Only applications frominvited countries are eligible to apply (see below for moreinformation). No applications will be considered from individuals. Allapplications must be sent to the National Commission for UNESCO of thecountry of origin of the candidate (see below for more information).The National Commission will decide whether they will submit theapplication to UNESCO. It should be noted that all candidatures must beendorsed by the National Commission for UNESCO.
