Who is Eligible?
Applicants have to be admitted to the masters programmeat UM and should meet all the requirements of its applicationprocedure, for a maximum period of 12 months. Exceptionally, ascholarship can be awarded for a maximum period of 24 months in casethe applicant has chosen a two-year masters programme. Applicants haveto be a national and hold a passport of one of the countries mentionedin the paragraph ‘application & selection' below. Applicants haveto meet the requirements for obtaining a Dutch visa ('MVV' - residencepermit; for more information, please visit www.ind.nl).

Amount of the Scholarship
The UM Scholarship ismeant to be a contribution in the living expenses for the duration ofthe masters programme at UM with a maximum of 12 months. Thescholarship starts and ends at the dates mentioned in the awardingletter.

Application & Selection
You can apply by filling in the application form (downloadablein pdf-format). Print the form and fill it out completely. Finally,send the form to the contact person of the faculty that offers theprogramme of your choice. Click here for a list of faculty contact details.

Please note: Applications have to be in the possession of the faculty contact person by 11 March 2005.

Faculties will set up a motivated ranking based on quality. Withrespect to the faculty ranking for which quality is the leadingcriterium, priority will be given to applicants with the nationality ofthe following countries:

  1. The first group of UM target countries: Latonia, Estonia,Lithuania, Poland, Hungary, Slovakia, Czech Republic, Slovenia,Macedonia, Moldavia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Uzbekistan,Bulgaria, Rumania, Belo Russia, Russia, Georgia, Armenia, Albania,Azerbaidzjan, Kyrgyzstan, Tadzjikistan, Croatia, Serbia,Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro.
  2. The second group of UM target countries: Turkey, China
  3. The third group of UM target countries: Indonesia, Taiwan, United States of America

The faculty will then proceed to a ranking based on quality. The Faculty Board will send its motivated selection to the International Service Desk (ISD) at Student Services.

The ISD will distribute the available scholarships pro rata thenumber of candidates proposed by the faculty, starting with the firstcandidate of every participating faculty. In principle every facultyproposing one or several candidates will be awarded at least one UMscholarship. If any scholarships are left, these will be distributed inproportion to the number of applicants proposed by the faculty. TheExecutive Board of Universiteit Maastricht will make the finaldecision. Applicants will be informed about the outcome in writing.
