Students who apply and are offered entry to postgraduate courses at theUniversity of Dundee starting in academic year 2006/2007 are eligible toapply for an Overseas Student Scholarship. These will be offered in theFaculties of Arts & Social Sciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences andLife Sciences. The scholarships will be awarded on academic merit and willbe a contribution toward overseas tuition fees. The awards will be paiddirectly to the Finance Office of the University on behalf of therecipients. Postgraduate students successfully awarded an Overseas StudentScholarship will therefore only be liable for the difference between thefull overseas tuition fee and the scholarship awarded.

For how long is the Overseas Student Scholarship tenable?

Overseas Student Scholarships are awarded on academic merit and aretenable for each year of full-time postgraduate study and research,subject to satisfactory progress and performance. If the recipientmakes satisfactory progress in accordance with degree regulations, thescholarship will therefore be awarded in each year that the fullpostgraduate tuition fee is charged. Overseas Student Scholarships donot cover periods of 'continuation' when postgraduate students are nolonger full-time, are writing up, or have submitted their theses forexaminations.

The Overseas Student Scholarship will be discontinued if performanceand/ or progress of the recipient are deemed by the awarding Faculty tohave fallen below an acceptable standard.

Who is eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship?

In order to be eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship youmust be applying for, have already applied for, or already have beenoffered, a place to undertake full-time postgraduate study or researchcommencing in session 2006/2007, in one of the Faculties listed above. Youmust also be designated as an overseas student for tuition feespurposes.

The University will issue details of the Overseas StudentScholarships and an application form to all relevant overseas enquirerstogether with the standard University application form for postgraduatestudy and research. Any applicants for postgraduate study in 2006/2007 whohad applied for a place or were already offered a place in the relevantFaculties prior to the introduction of the scheme will also be sent anapplication form and invited to apply for a Overseas StudentScholarship.

Who is not eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship?

Postgraduate applicants for postgraduate study and research in theFaculty of Medicine, Dentistry & Nursing, Duncan of JordanstoneCollege of Art and Design and the Faculty of Law & Accountancy arenot eligible to apply for an Overseas Student Scholarship. Nor arestudents domiciled in the UK or EU and designated as 'home' studentsfor tuition fee purposes for whatever reason.

Postgraduate students awarded any other scholarship or grant, be itby the University or by an external body, are not eligible to apply fora Overseas Student Scholarship. Students benefiting from any otherspecial fee reduction will also be ineligible to apply. In other words,overseas postgraduate students can only benefit from one scheme leadingto a reduction in their fee liability at one time.

How will the Overseas Student Scholarship be awarded?

Overseas Student Scholarships will be awarded on academic merit tosuitably qualified candidates in the Faculties of Arts & SocialSciences, Engineering and Physical Sciences and Life Sciences.Applications for the postgraduate scholarships will be considered alongwith the applications for postgraduate study and research received fromeligible candidates.

How do I apply?

Application for an Overseas Student Scholarship must be made on theapplication form sent to you by the University with your applicationform for postgraduate study or research. The form must be completed,signed and returned with your application for postgraduate study.

If you have already applied for a postgraduate place, or have alreadybeen offered and accepted a place for 2006/2007, you will be issued withthe Overseas Student Scholarship application form and this guidance note indue course and well in advance of matriculation.

Successfulapplicants will be notified of the award of the Overseas StudentScholarship in the letter offering them a postgraduate place. If you aresent a conditional offer of a postgraduate place, the award of the OverseasStudent Scholarship will also be conditional upon fulfillment of thespecified conditions.

The final deadline for submission of scholarship applications is 31stJuly 2006

How will the Overseas Student Scholarship be paid?

The Overseas Student Scholarship is a contribution towards overseastuition fees. The value of the Scholarship will be paid by the Facultyand will be deducted from your overseas tuition fee bill. This meansthat although the full overseas tuition fee will be charged, you oryour sponsor will only be liable for the difference between the fullfee and the value of the Scholarship awarded. The University will tellyou of the amount when notifying you of the award of a Overseas StudentScholarship.
