RCUK Fellowship in Health Economics and Public Health
Centre for Health Economics

(Ref: BR07122)

The University of York is one of the leading research-based universities in the UK. Building on a record of sustained excellence in teaching and research in its forty years, the University has embarked on a major programme of expansion, which will involve the significant growth of many
academic departments. As part of this expansion, the University has successfully bid for 7 RCUK Fellowships. Five Fellowships were appointed in October 2006. The prestigious RCUK Fellowships were introduced to provide a strong career path for outstanding researchers through the transition to independent academic positions. The Fellowships offer the opportunity of a 5 year period to concentrate on establishing a strong personal research profile, followed by a transfer to an established academic post, subject to successful completion of probation. Training will be provided for the transition, and teaching responsibilities will be introduced progressively.

The Fellow will undertake research to advance methodologies to inform and evaluate public health policy through the application of economic principles. The empirical analysis of non-experimental sources of data will form a key component to the research programme. You will hold a higher degree in health economics, economics or another quantitative subject and it
is desirable that you will have completed or are close to completing PhD studies or have similar research experience. Strong quantitative skills and experience of using large and complex datasets are essential.

More details of the Centre can be found at www.york.ac.uk/inst/che.

Salary will be within the range: £25,889 - £31,840 per annum. The post is available from 1st October 2007.

Interviews will be held on 1 June 2007.

Closing date for applications: 12 noon on Monday, 30 April.
