UK: Postgraduate Studentships, School of Psychology, University of Southampton

We have a number of studentships available for PhD students wishing topursue a research degree commencing October 2006 in any of our existingresearch groups: Clinical, Cognitive, Developmental, Health, Learning andBehaviour Analysis, and Social and Personality Psychology. In the last RAEexercise Psychology at Southampton was given a rating of “5″ and we ranked5th in the country in the number of research active staff, and our researchpower places us amongst the top 10 departments in the UK.
The awards are funded by Research Councils and other external organisations,and by the University of Southampton and the School of Psychology itself.The School has an excellent track record of securing external funding forstudents. Last year we funded 14 students from various sources and we expectto fund a similar number for entry October 2006.
School of Psychology Studentships
A number of School Studentships are available for full-time doctoral studyin any of the School’s main research areas. Applicants for Schoolstudentships will be expected to apply for external funding, in particularfrom the ESRC (UK/EU applicants) or from home country (overseas applicants):*Deadline for applications for School studentships is the 3rd April 2006.*
ESRC Studentships
We encourage all eligible students to apply for ESRC studentships. Detailsof the ESRC competition can be obtained from the School. The School has anexcellent track record of securing external funding for students. Over thepast 4 years we have been awarded 22 ESRC studentships and 12 ESRC-Caseawards. We have a quota of up to four ESRC 1+3 studentships and one opencompetition studentship awarded to us for 2006. *The closing date to applyfor a 1+3 or +3 studentship is the 3rd April 2006.*
We urge all prospective students to contact the School as soon as possibleso that we can guide you through the application process. All applicationsmust name a prospective supervisor. Please look through our website andcontact that member of staff whose research programme is of interest beforeapplying. Alternatively we are happy to post an information booklet andapplication form to you. Applicants for studentships should have, or beexpected to obtain, a First or Upper Second class honours degree inPsychology or a related discipline.
