UK: Postgraduate Research Studentships in Law, University of Southampton


From the academic year 2007/2008, Southampton University Law School will be offering up to 8 studentships in designated research fields, including biotechnology law, company law, comparative land law, comparative and EU competition law, criminal law, education and social welfare law, environmental law, EU and international (human rights) law, international commercial arbitration and litigation, international and comparative law of evidence, IT and IP law, Law of the Internet and e-commerce, taxation, and tort law.

The School is one of only 8 UK law schools to hold the highest rating for outstanding international excellence in legal research (RAE 5*) and currently has some 30 students in candidature for the M.Phil./PhD. degrees.

Some studentships will include the opportunity to be a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA). All are fixed term for one year, but renewable thereafter up to three years in total, subject to satisfactory progress. Studentships available to UK/EU students:

  • Up to 3 studentships consisting of: fee waiver plus GTA opportunity amounting to £3,575.

GTAs are subject to School needs and will normally only be available in core subjects (constitutional and administrative law, contract, EU, property and tort). Any reduced teaching load during the first year will be off-set in later years.

Studentships open to All Students:

  • Up to 5 studentships consisting of: fee waiver at UK/EU level. ORSAS funding for international students may be available.
