"Keeping the Nuclear Option Open"

"Keepingthe Nuclear Option Open" is a major (£6M) EPSRC and BNFL-fundedinitiative, with the involvement of Imperial College and several otheruniversities. It is a four year programme supporting a wide range ofresearch addressing different aspects of nuclear power production.Imperial College is providing the overall academic leadership (RobinGrimes), and is leading two of the four work packages into which theprogramme is divided.

From this autumn onward Imperial College will be seeking to appoint a range of research staff in the following technical areas:

  • Reactor safety analysis, thermal-hydraulics and structural mechanics
  • Advanced methods for reactor criticality calculations
  • Molecular dynamics simulations
  • Non-destructive testing

Appointmentswill vary at Postdoctoral Research Associate, Postgraduate ResearchAssistant and Research Student levels, depending on the technical areaand experience of the candidates, typically for three to four years.Salaries and other conditions will be in line with Imperial College'snormal practice for such positions.
