UK: PhD Studentships in Fire and Evacuation Modelling application

PhD Studentships Fire Safety Engineering Group

SEVERAL PHD STUDENTSHIPS WITH FSEG AVAILABLE
The Fire Safety Engineering Group (FSEG) of the University ofGreenwich, London UK is offering a number of three year PhDstudentships in a range of fire and evacuation modelling applicationareas. A range of topics is available, the precise number of positionsoffered will be dependent on the nature of the projects accepted bysuccessful candidates and the availability of PhD supervisors. However, it is anticipated that around four to six positions will beawarded.

FUNDING
Funding for the PhD studentships may be by one of several sources tobe confirmed on a case by case basis. These include University Bursaryand EPSRC funding. The nature of the funding will be dependent on thecandidate eligibility and the availability of funds. The fundinginformation indicated on the further details for each projectrepresents the minimum financial support offered. In all cases, thestudentship will pay the student a stipend and cover university fees.

THE PROJECTS:
The projects, listed below in no specific order of preference, areconcerned with the following broad topics:

  • The simulation of evacuation from rail car environments. (pleaserefer to Rail Evacuation Modelling project)
  • Representing Building Familiarity and simulating OccupantWayfinding Capabilities within egress models. (please refer toWayfinding Modelling project)
  • The development of numerical techniques to assess buildingcomplexity. (please refer to Building Complexity project)
  • The Development, Implementation and Application of Elevatormodels within an evacuation modelling environment. (please refer toElevator Evacuation Modelling project)
  • The simulation of evacuation from Very Large Aircraftenvironments. (please refer to Aircraft Evacuation Modelling project)
  • LES modelling as applied to fire simulation. (please refer toLES Modelling project)
  • Prediction of Soot generation in fires. (please refer to SMOKEModelling project)
  • The use of Knowledge Based Technology to Optimise the solutionof CFD based fire simulations. (please refer to KBS project)
