UK: PhD Studentships in Chinese Studies, University of Nottingham

The School of Contemporary Chinese Studies offers two PhD studentships which cover the full tuition fees for overseas students for three years. Students will be responsible for their own living expenses and may have opportunities to engage in some part-time teaching whenever
opportunities arise.

The School currently has over 20 academic staff, but is expanding rapidly to meet a strong and rising demand for China studies and to support its PhD training programme and three new masters programmes, MA Chinese-English Translation and Interpreting, MA Contemporary Chinese Studies and MSc Management for Contemporary China. Launched two years ago, the PhD programme has recruited 15 full-time students, studying different aspects of contemporary China.

The School has a popular and successful single honours undergraduate programme, BA Contemporary Chinese Studies, and eight other undergraduate programmes jointly run with the Schools of Economics, Business, History, Geography, Sociology, American Studies and others
within the University of Nottingham. It also has a close link with the University of Nottingham Ningbo Campus in the Zhejiang Province of China. Students enrolled onto these programmes have an option to spend various lengths of time in China for field work and research.

The School also has a strong team of five Mandarin teaching professionals with outstanding language teaching facilities and intellectual capabilities. All Mandarin teachers hold a PhD degree
with extensive research experience focusing on education and linguistics studies.

Applications are particularly welcome from students with research interests in at least one of the following areas: business, management, economics, marketing, law, politics and international
relation, human resource management, rural and urban planning and the environment, history, culture, development policy, or any other social science subjects related to contemporary China.

Students should have an excellent undergraduate and postgraduate education in the UK or overseas university, and excellent English language ability.
