UK: PhD Studentships FORCE Cancer Research Charity Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry


The Peninsula College of Medicine and Dentistry with its` parent Institutions, the Universities of Exeter and Plymouth, are seeking to attract PhD candidates of outstanding ability to join their exciting and rapidly expanding programme of internationally rated research.

As part of our new developments and our commitment to research excellence, applications are invited from suitably qualified graduates, 2:1 or above, for a full-time PhD studentships. The stipends will be £12,300. Tuition fees will be paid at the home rate. Candidates from countries outside the EU will be liable for the difference between `home student fees` and `foreign student fees`.

Two studentships are available commencing in January 2007, funded by FORCE Cancer Research Charity, Exeter.

PPHI 37: PhD studentship entitled `Mechanisms of lung tumour metastasis to the brain`.This post will investigate the molecular basis of brain metastasis formation from primary lung tumours. This will involve examining the interactions between lung tumour cells and both the endothelial cells lining the cerebral blood vessels, and astrocytes; the main supporting cells within the brain. The post will involve primary cell isolation, cell culture, immunocytochemistry and protein biochemistry techniques.

PPHI 38: PhD studentship entitled “Interaction between omental endothelial cells and ovarian cancer cells”Ovarian cancer spreads aggressively into the surrounding omental tissue. This post will investigate the molecular basis of the interactions between ovarian cancer cells and the endothelial cells lining the blood vessels within the omentum. The post will involve primary cell isolation, cell culture, immunocytochemistry and protein biochemistry techniques.
