UK: PhD Studentship in The Area of Economic Regulation
Applications are invited from students who hold a masters degree ineconomics or a related discipline for a PhD studentship in the area ofeconomic regulation. Proposals in the areas of utility regulation, theintroduction of competition to markets which were previouslymonopolised,and consumer choice are particularly welcome. The student will be basedinthe School of Management (MGT) and their main supervisor will beProfessorCatherine Waddams
The successful PhD appointee will become a student member of the CentreforCompetition Policy. As well as the inter-disciplinary support networkofother PhD students and members of the Centre, student members areexpectedto attend the weekly seminar programme and regular research discussionsthroughout term-time.
The MGT studentship will cover the current home fees for PhD and astipendcurrently at £10,500 per annum with research expenses of £750 per annum.Itwill be awarded for one year in the first instance, renewable for afurthertwo years subject to satisfactory academic progress. The student will beexpected to provide some assistance with the MGT tutorial programme to amaximum of 50 hours per academic year.
Students are also members of the School of Management, close to theCentrefor Competition Policy, where research students are situated in adedicatedlab, with their own desk space. Each PhD student has access to apowerfuldesktop workstation, with large storage capacity, fast internet accessandall the latest Microsoft Productivity tools and Data Analysis software.They will also have access to the University network and all libraryresources. A research training course will be provided for the firstyearof study.
