UK: PhD Studentship in Statistical Genetics, University of Oxford
Department of Cardiovascular Medicine
The Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics
An EU-funded PhD Studentship is available to commence October 2007. The project will be supervised jointly by Prof. Martin Farrall and Dr. Andrew Morris within the Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics at the University of Oxford. The studentship is open to UK and EU nationals. The studentship will provide a stipend, university and college fees, research and travel expenses.
A highly motivated research student is sought to join GABRIEL, a multidisciplinary EU-funded research programme to identify key factors in the development of asthma. The student will develop novel statistical methods to analyse genome-wide gene-association studies and apply them to map susceptibility for asthma and associated quantitative traits. Further details of the research project are available at http://www.well.ox.ac.uk/~mfarrall and http://www.gabriel-fp6.org.
Candidates must hold a good honours degree (first or upper second class for UK graduates or equivalent for EU applicants); statistics and/or maths graduates are encouraged to apply (training in population and quantitative genetics will be provided if necessary).
