Blood vessels, nerves and arthritis

Applications are invited for a three-year PhD studentship supervised by Dr David Walsh, Division of Academic Rheumatology, The University of Nottingham. The successful student will join a multidisciplinary team, developing their project within a programme of laboratory-based
research into the roles of nerve and blood vessel growth in osteoarthritis and other joint disease. Current projects explore the roles of neuropeptides and angiogenesis in synovial inflammation
(synovitis), and the nature and consequences of neurovascular invasion into cartilage.

Academic Rheumatology has extensive expertise in in vivo pharmacology and model development, histomorphometry and molecular biology. The Division also benefits from close collaborations with clinicians and epidemiologists.

This studentship provides a stipend of £12,600 per annum in the first instance and tuition fees will be paid up to the rates charged for UK/EU residents. Non-EU students are welcome, and the University of Nottingham offers some scholarships to cover fees in open competition with other non-EU students.
