SUPPORTED BY THE FOOD STANDARDS AGENCY

A three year PhD studentship is available from October 2006 toundertake a study on Enhanced nutrition communications- making thebest of food labels. The aim of the work is to explore consumer’sviews and understanding of general issues in food labeling andspecific issues around food and health in order to identifyappropriate mechanisms for optimizing the comprehension of foodlabeling messages.

The FSA has funded the project which will be under the direction ofProfessor Annie S. Anderson in close collaboration with Dr WendyWrieden. The successful applicant would join a team of researchersworking on health behaviour studies related to changing dietaryintake, physical activity and the prevention of obesity.

The successful candidate will have a Masters degree or a first degree(Classes 1 or 2:1) which has ideally included two of the followingareas: nutrition, psychology, health studies or health promotion.The studentships will be at the FSA agreed rate (maintenance stipendof £13,400 p.a. in 2006/7) to provide support over the three-yearperiod and will cover tuition fees.
