We are seeking to appoint a PhD student to carry out full time research oncognitive and behavioural effects of childhood seizures. The work will focusprimarily on examining memory abilities in a wide age range of children whoexperienced convulsive status epilepticus and relating the profile ofimpairment to the associated neuropathology. The central hypothesis for theproject is that convulsive status epilepticus can cause a spectrum ofhippocampal injury, and that children with the most severe hippocampalinjury will develop temporal lobe epilepsy associated with cognitivedeficits and behavioural disorders.
The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary team that appliesbehavioural and cognitive testing, structural and functional brain imaging, electrophysiological techniques, and other, emerging, techniques toinvestigate normal and abnormal neurocognitive development. Applicants musthave an undergraduate degree in Psychology or related discipline andexperience in working with children and/or atypical populations will be anasset.
Stipend: £12,000 per annum
