UK: PhD Studentship in Medical Imaging at Swansea University

We seek an enthusiastic individual with an interest in scientific computingand medical imaging to join a 3-year, EPSRC-funded project in magneticinduction tomography. This is a technique that maps the internal electricalconductivity of the body and is being developed as a new medical imagingmodality. Of particular interest in this project is the imaging of cerebralstroke and the potential for a new means of rapid diagnosis that could enablea more timely treatment.
The work will involve numerical modelling and practical laboratory imaging,leading to clinical measurements. There will be opportunities to presentresults at international conferences. Although based at Swansea University,you will work as part of an established multi-centre research team involvingthe Universities of Glamorgan and Manchester, as well as other industrial andacademic partners. You should have a First or Upper Second Class degree, orequivalent, in Physics, Engineering, Mathematics or a related field.
The studentship is available from 1 November 2006 with a starting date nolater than 1 April 2007.
The stipend will be at the current EPSRC level, £12,300 per annum. Tuitionfees will be funded (including at overseas rate).
