UK: PhD Studentship in Media and Communications, University of London
A full-time studentship is available for an MPhil/PhD in the Department of Media and Communications at Goldsmiths, University of London. The studentship is attached to a project within the Goldsmiths Media Research Programme: Spaces, Connections, Control. This programme is led by Professor James Curran and funded by the Leverhulme Trust. The 5-year programme of research is designed to illuminate how future changes in the technologies for communication will impact both positively and negatively upon society in all its aspects.
For the studentship in Media and Communications, applications are sought from any research area that engages with the issues and concerns of the Spaces of the News project. The PhD should explore some aspect of the ways in which technological, economic and social change is reconfiguring news journalism and shaping the dynamics of the public sphere and public culture. Applicants will be expected to show an awareness of relevant theory and the workings of news media in all its forms.
