A fully funded 3 year PhD studentship is available within the Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia Group to investigate and develop agent-based techniques for decentralised control of large scale information systems. Application areas of particular interest are disaster management and the coordination of sensor networks for environmental monitoring.

The School of Electronics and Computer Science at the University of Southampton is a world class centre of research excellence. The School is the largest of its kind in the UK and it was awarded the top grade (5*) for its research in Electronics and Computer Science in the 2001 national assessment of research in UK universities.
A fully funded 3 year PhD studentship is available within the Intelligence, Agents, Multimedia Group to investigate and develop agent-based techniques for decentralised control of large scale information systems. Application areas of particular interest are disaster management and the coordination of sensor networks for environmental monitoring.
Applicants should have (or expect to gain) a 1st or 2.1 class degree in a numerate discipline, for example mathematics, physics, computer science or engineering, and must be eligible for an EPSRC Doctoral Training Award. Experience or interest in subjects such as game theory, information theory, auctions, machine learning or agent-based computing would be advantageous.
