UK: PhD Studentship in Computational Materials Science
PhD Studentship in Computational Materials ScienceTo develop a modelling strategy, connecting molecular dynamics, micromechanics with continuum finite element analysisMechanics of Materials Group
Applications are invited for a PhD studentship based in the Mechanicsof Materials Group in Department of Engineering at the University ofLeicester. Both EU and overseas applications are welcome.
The Project - The studentship is part of a major project funded by theEPSRC on multi-scale modelling of materials. Two postdoctoral researchfellows are already working on the project. The project aims todevelop a modelling strategy, connecting molecular dynamics, micromechanics with continuum finite element analysis. The PhD projectwill focus on the molecular dynamics part of the project and start assoon as a successful candidate becomes available.
The Candidate - Candidates for the studentship should have at least a2:1 Honours degree (or the equivalent) preferably in chemistry.Graduates from engineering or mathematical background will also beconsidered. Experience in molecular dynamic modelling and computingwould be an advantage.
The Studentship - It covers University tuition fees at EU/UK level andprovides a tax-free bursary of £12,500 per year for a three-yearduration.
The Research Group - The Department of Engineering at the Universityof Leicester was rated 5A in the last Research Assessment Exercise. The Mechanics of Materials Group has an international reputation forits work on materials modelling.
The deadline for application is 21st of July 2006. Further detailsabout the Group can be found athttp://www.le.ac.uk/eg/research/groups/mechmats.
