PhD Studentship Ventilation rates and airflow patterns in cavities School of Mechanical, Aerospace & Civil Engineering

July 2007 start preferable
A vacancy exists for a three year PhD studentship to study the flow of air within cavities in historic buildings, and to relate the results obtained to the risk of condensation and fungal damage. The work is partially supported by English Heritage and Irish Heritage. The work will involve laboratory work in its first phase, but will move on to include Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) and field work. Ideally, the successful candidate would be able to make a July 2007 start.
Applications will be considered from home/EU and overseas students with a good first degree in a relevant Science or Engineering subject. The award is for approximately *£16,000* per year to cover fees* and maintenance.
