The University offers an MPhil/PhD research studentship in Biomedical Engineering, researching in the area of Computerized Heart Monitoring and Imaging. A full time MPhil/PhD studentship is offered to a suitable Electronic Engineering or Computer Science graduate. You will have (or expect to gain) a first class honours degree (or an upper second class honours degree) in either Electronic Engineering or Computer Science. The research will be undertaken at the University campus and at Broomfield Hospital in Chelmsford under the guidance of two medical consultants. The start date would normally be the 1st of September but this is negotiable.

You should have knowledge in the following areas:

  • Computer Programming (C, C++, VB or Matlab M-files)
  • Understanding of Medical Instrumentation or general electronics instrumentation circuits for low signal (low signal-to-noise ratio) measurements
  • Digital signal processing algorithms and techniques
  • Image processing

The stipend is £8,500 per annum and is initially available for the first 2 years. The enrolment fee of £3,500 per annum is waived.
