These positions are tenable for four years and open to well-qualifiedgraduates with a degree in Engineering, Science or Mathematics classified at2:1 or higher. The assistants will register for PhD study for the four yearperiod. The area of research will coincide with one of the research areaswithin the Department such that supervisors can be allocated.

Applicants will be expected to contribute to a range of teaching activitieswithin the Undergraduate and Masters level programmes in the Department ofMechanical Engineering. This would cover part time teaching, tutorialsupport, project supervision, marking and invigilation as appropriate. Fulltraining support will be given to the assistants. Payment for this elementwill be made in accordance with normal University practice.

The positions are fully funded over the four year period. Successful UK orEU applicants will receive a tax-free stipend of £12,300 per annum. Overseasapplicants would receive a reduced stipend of £5,000 per annum in order thatthe full tuition fees may be covered.
