UK: PhD in Drug Design University of Dublin, Trinity College
Allergies are escalating at an alarming rate in modern society. Whether the physiological response to exposure is mild or severe, ranging from urticaria to anaphylaxis, the mechanisms is centred on mast cells and their blood counterpart, the basophils.
In our laboratory to date we have designed, synthesised and pharmacologically evaluated a large number of novel and highly active mast cell stabilising compounds. This project will focus on further development of these compounds with particular emphasis on their metabolic profile. Ideally the candidate will have a primary degree in pharmacy, chemistry, medicinal chemistry or biochemistry. This project is funded by Enterprise Ireland under the Technology Development Programme.
