The University of Newcastle is delighted to announce over 100 new Newcastle International Postgraduate Scholarship (NIPS) awards. These are available for international students starting their studies in September 2006, in the 2006-07 academic year.

These partial scholarships are to encourage well - qualified graduates from all over the world to follow:

• a taught postgraduate programme
• or undertake high quality research at Newcastle University.

Each scholarship will have a value of £1,500 per year, payable towards tuition fees in the first instance. In very exceptional circumstances, the value of the NIPS may be increased to £3,000 per year at the discretion of the Scholarships Committee.

Eligibility

You could be eligible to apply for a NIPS award if:

• you have been offered a place on any postgraduate degree programme
• you have been assessed as overseas for fees purposes, and are wholly or partially self-financing
• you intend to register to start your studies during the 2006-07 academic year.

Applications for a NIPS award cannot be made for a course that has already been started by a student.

How to apply

Eligible applicants, who are offered a place to study at the University before the closing date for this scholarship scheme, will be sent an application form and invited to apply for one of these scholarships.

There are two closing dates: 28 February 2006 and 23 May 2006. Applications will be considered after each closing date and candidates will be notified in April and July whether their application has been successful.

Please note that NIPS applications cannot be considered for candidates unless they have already applied for and been offered a place to study at the University.
