An opportunity has arisen for a high calibre graduate to undertake an MSc byResearch in consumer attitudes to water conservation measures.
Awareness of water conservation issues continues to grow with increasingdemands placed on water resources. Attitudes to water conservation measuresare important influences on individual willingness to take action. Many ofthese attitudes are culturally based. With progressively heterogeneoussocieties, an understanding of the relationships between attitudes to wateras a resource and commodity and possible responses to conservationinitiatives is becoming increasingly important.
This research activity will entail a review of theory and existing empiricalstudies on these issues, application of statistical analysis techniques todata from questionnaire based surveys conducted in four countries in theMiddle East. Preparation of reports and papers to support the project willalso be required.
The successful applicant will be based within the Centre for Water Scienceat Cranfield University, which undertakes internationally leading research,education and training in technology and associated scientific, engineeringand policy issues for the treatment, use and management of water. The Centrehas been awarded an EPSRC ‘Technology Platform’ in recognition of ourinternational standing and are the first university department outside ofthe USA to be awarded American Water Works Association Research Foundation(AwwaRF) funding. Unique facilities include a pilot-plant hall atCranfield’s own sewage treatment works and state-of-the-art laboratories.
Entry Requirements:
Applicants should have a First or Upper Second Class Honours degree, orequivalent, in the Social or Human Sciences, environmental or behaviouralpsychology, and experience of analysing both quantitative and qualitativedata. Good written English as well as some knowledge or experience of thewater sector would also be desirable.
