UK: Michael Peacock Charitable Foundation Scholarships for Postgraduate Study


  1. Five Peacock Scholarships are offered for postgraduate studyat the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) for theacademic year 2006/2007. The scholarships are open to students fromcountries in the former Soviet Union and Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia,Croatia, Bosnia, Macedonia, Kosovo and Albania. Scholarships aretenable only at LSE.
  2. The intention behind this programme ofscholarship is to aid the transition of these countries to marketeconomies with Western style democratic institutions. The PeacockScholarships will be awarded to candidates of outstanding academicmerit who are able to demonstrate how their studies at LSE will make agenuine contribution towards their country's future development.Scholars will be asked to give an undertaking to return to their homecountries for further study or work on completion of their period atLSE and to provide a clear statement of the work they intend to pursue.
  3. Thescholarships are open to students who have applied to and been acceptedby LSE to follow taught Masters programmes, for a maximum of 12 months,at the School. In exceptional cases, candidates accepted for a Diplomacourse may be eligible.
  4. The value of the scholarships willvary depending on the financial circumstances of the successfulcandidates. The average award given for the 2005/06 academic sessionwas £22,520. Wherever possible candidates will be expected to make acontribution of the costs of studying at LSE and to this end candidatesare encouraged to explore other sources of financial assistance.
  5. Interestedcandidates should apply for admission to a Master's programme at theSchool following the School's normal admission procedures. Applicationsfor admission must reach the Graduate Admissions Office in sufficienttime for a formal offer of a place to be made by 28 April 2006.
  6. Eligibleapplicants who receive an offer of admission to a Master's programme(whether conditional or unconditional) by 28 April 2006 will beconsidered for this award. Completed application forms must be returnedto the Financial Support Office at the School's postal address by 28 April 2006.
  7. Anacademic reference must be supplied with the application form. It isimportant that the reference supplied is completed in accordance withthe guidelines provided, which can be found here.
  8. Youmust also supply a passport sized photograph with your name on theback, which must accompany your completed application form.
  9. Decisionson the award of the Scholarships will normally be taken by the end ofJune. All applicants will be informed of the outcome of theirapplication in writing.
