The Netherland: PhD Position in Bioinformatics/Biostatistics
Plant Sciences Group of Wageningen University (WU) and Plant Research International (PRI).
Job description
Job description:
The function of many genes is still unknown and there is a great need forcomputational approaches to assist in unraveling the function of unknown genes.Classical gene annotation works mainly through evolutionary association(homology-based function prediction). But there is also diverse experimental, but indirect, information coming available, for example, on associations inexpression with other transcripts, with specific biochemical, cellular, physiological or developmental processes, or on the genomic neighborhood andshared regulatory signals. The aim of the project is to develop and test aprincipled, namely Bayesian, approach to combine these sources of information.
The candidate will develop a probabilistic framework for gene functionprediction, use Bayesian computational methods to implement this framework andapply the resulting tool to fungal and plant genomes.
