The Kelly Elizabeth Stephens Memorial Scholarship - in Education
The Kelly Elizabeth Stephens Memorial Scholarship
was established in 1995 by Dorothy and Robert Stephens, Kelly's parents, to celebrate Kelly's accomplishments and to encourage similar achievements in other School of Education students. Kelly was a teacher of English in Indonesia who was fatally injured in a volcano eruption. Each year, part or all of the income from the permanently endowed fund is awarded to a deserving Indonesian graduate student on the basis not only of a commitment to teaching-especially in the field of English or international education development-but also of financial need. In addition to completing the SED Entering Graduate Application for Financial Assistance, applicants must submit an essay in English explaining why they would like to study at Boston University School of Education, how the Stephens Scholarship would help them achieve their goals, and their plans for achievement in the decade following graduation.
