Switzerland: PhD Position in Theoretical Particle Physics, Paul Scherrer Institute
Future particle colliders, like the LHC and the ILC, will allow for improved precision tests of the Standard Model. In order to exploit the potential of these experiments improved theoretical predictions are mandatory. At high energies, the electroweak corrections are enhanced by large logarithms of the energy. These electroweak logarithmic corrections are universal and dominant in many observables.
Your Task
Generalization of a method for the calculation of the leading and next-to-leading electroweak logarithms to the second order of perturbation theory. This includes, in particular, the use of Ward identities for the extraction of the logarithmic contributions and the calculation of two-loop integrals. While the emphasis is on analytical work also some numerical results should be obtained.
Your Profile
You have a diploma or a masters degree (including a written thesis) in physics with excellent results. You have very good language skills in german or english and you are less than thirty years old. Some experience in perturbative calculations in quantum field theory would be very useful.
You will be registered as a PhD student with the University Zurich. The working place is the Paul Scherrer Institute in Villigen (Switzerland).
If interested please provide a curriculum vitae and copies of your certificates and arrange for two letters of recommendation to be sent by ordinary mail or email to
