The Economic Research Institute (IRE) of the University of Lugano(Switzerland) has a strong focus on regional and transport economics.The IRE opens applications for a position as a Ph. D. candidate ineconomics starting from the 1st January 2007.

We expect applications from candidates, who have successfully concludedtheir Master degree in economics or econometrics and a strong interestin applied research. The candidate will be fully involved in an appliedresearch project in the National Research Programme 54 “SustainableDevelopment of the Built Environment”. The interdisciplinary projectdeals with the assessment of optimal investments to reduceinfrastructure disruption and vulnerability due to natural or man-madehazards. The project is based on a pilot study focusing on thetransportation infrastructures across the Alps. Your communication andwriting skills in English are good, you are familiar with Italian andfit well in a small research team. Your principle tasks will be relatedto this research project and to the accomplishment of the Ph.D.programme. The IRE provides the office space, computer and libraryfacilities and offers good salary conditions.
