Switzerland: International PhD programme 2007 at Friedrich Miescher Institute, Basel


Applications are invited for internally funded PhD studentfellowships at the FMI in Basel, Switzerland. The FMI is part of theNovartis Research Foundation. Our research focuses on epigenetics,growth control and neurobiology. We employ state-of-the-arttechnologies to explore basis molecular mechanisms of cells andorganisms in health and disease.

Current topics include: Synaptic plasticity / Neuronal connectivity /Function of neuronal networks / Cell specification anddifferentiation / Cell cycle and cancer / Biology of aging / Signaltransduction / DNA and RNA dynamics and function / Cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions / Epigenetic regulation and chromatinmodification / Gene expression and silencing / Proteomics andgenomics / Protein structure / Proteolysis.

Our international PhD programme has 100 graduate students from morethan 25 countries. The working language is English. Most students areregistered at the University of Basel. The successful candidate holdsa Diploma (or M.Sc.) acceptable for matriculation at the Universityof Basel and has a strong background in cell and molecular biology.

Financial support is in accordance with the scale of the SwissNational Science Foundation. Your income will be generous relative tointernational standards for PhD students.
