TheCentral Asia-Caucasus Institute and the Silk Road Studies Programconstitute a single, joint Transatlantic Research and Policy Center.The Center is independent and externally funded, and has offices inWashington, D.C., and Uppsala, Sweden. The Center is affiliated withthe Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies of JohnsHopkins University, and with the Departments of East European Studiesand Peace and Conflict Research at Uppsala University. It is the firstInstitution of its kind in both Europe and North America , and isfirmly established as a leading focus of research and policy worldwide,serving a large and diverse community of analysts, scholars,policy-watchers, business leaders, journalists, and students.
The Joint Center aims to be at the forefront of research on security,conflicts and development in the region. It further aspires to functionas a focal point for American and European academic and policydiscussion of the region through its applied research, publications,teaching, research network, and conference and forum activities. Work tasks:
The Center is looking for a junior researcher to conduct research onconflict prevention and conflict management in Northeast Asia , withinthe framework of the 'Conflict Management in Northeast Asia' project.The result of the research shall be presented in, at least, one majormonograph (200 pages or more) or the equivalent. A researchproposal/plan should be attached to the application.
Actively participate in both the academic and policy debate, includingpublication of op eds. in relevant outlets. The researcher is expectedto publish in academic journals.
Coordinate activities within the 'Conflict Management in Northeast Asia ' project.
Actively contribute to, and participate in, the development of the Center.
Teaching opportunities are available, but is not a requirement.
Requirements:
- PhD in International Studies, International Relations, Security Studies or the equivalent.
- Excellent academic record, including a strong record of publication.
- Fluency in spoken and written English.
Additional qualifications:
- Knowledge of at least one Asian language.
- International experience from, preferably, the Northeast Asian region.
