Sweden: PhD Student Position in Wireless Multimedia Communications

Ref No 06424

This PhD position is focused on cross-layer design of wireless networks for multimedia services. The aim of the research is to contribute to the fundamental understanding of the principles behind cross-layer approaches and to develop novel methods and algorithms for an optimized design of wireless multimedia networks. Particular emphasis will be given to real-time video services over wireless channels and related basic research for improved resource-efficiency and quality of service. Relevant topics include feature extraction algorithms for multimedia services; link adaptation techniques such as power control, adaptive modulation and coding, and retransmissions protocols; joint source-channel coding; methods for cross-layer optimization; and user-perceived quality assessment of multimedia services.
