PhD position in environmental measurement technique
Reference number 2009/93
Application deadline 2009-07-09
The Optical Remote Sensing group at the department of Radio and Space has an immediate opening for a PhD position. You will work in a project aimed at the development of measurement systems for the surveillance of flue gas emissions from ships. One system will be installed permanently in an airplane of the Swedish coast guard plane while another one will be installed on a land based station. The project is world unique and of large relevance for enforcing the use of low sulfur oil according to new IMO and EU legislation.
The work will be conducted in a group (http://www.rss.chalmers.se/ors/) where research and development of new remote sensing methods is conducted and applied for studies of atmospheric chemistry in the background atmosphere and large cities, volcanic emissions, climate gas emission and industrial emissions.
Job description
In your work as a PhD student you will conduct and analyze ship emission measurements and publish the results in scientific journals. The work will also include development of measurement instruments, primarily a remote sensing system based on optical spectroscopy. You will also take courses for further development in your research topic. The work will be conducted together with a research engineer and an additional PhD student.
PhD student positions are limited to five years and will normally include 20% departmental work, mostly teaching duties. Salary for the position is as specified in Chalmers’ general agreement for PhD student positions.
