CONDITIONS OF RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS GRANTED BY THE TURKISH GOVERNMENT
A- INFORMATION ABOUTSCHOLARSHIPS
1- Researchscholarships are granted for those who will do scientific research in theirfield of interest in Turkish Universities unless there is a specialquotation in Cultural Agreements, Cultural Exchange Programmes or in similaragreements.
2- Duration ofthe scholarships is eight months.
3- Scholarshipswill start on 1 October 2005.
4- Travelexpenses to or from Turkey will be paid by scholars or their governments.
5- Candidatesawarded with a scholarship will be provided with free accommodation at statedormitories affiliated to the Ministry of National Education on condition thatthere are places available. No grants are possible for those refusing stateaccommodation. The students can take advantage of low-cost food in thedormitories to be paid by them selves. Monthly scholarship allowance is 165.-New Turkish Lira.
6- Monthlyscholarship allowance can only meet the needs of one person thus it isessential that the scholars have to come to Turkey alone.
7- The expensesof scholars' medical care will be met by the Turkish government (Except forlong-term illnesses, complex operations, orthodontics, prosthesis and toothprosthesis).
B- QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
The candidates:
1- Should not becitizen of the Republic of Turkey.
2- Should havecompleted graduate programmes lasting at least four years before the date ofapplication.
3- Should havefluent communication skills in Turkish, English or French languages.
4- Not to haveany medical problems to do the research in Turkey.
5- Thescholarships are for young people, and those with academic titles as "Associate professor" and "professor" cannot apply.
C- APPLICATION AND SELECTIONPROCEDURE
1- Since theTurkish Government provides these scholarships through the relevantgovernments, the candidates should make their application through the relevantauthorities of their own government.
2- Candidatesare selected by a joint committee including a member from the TurkishDiplomatic Mission abroad.
3- A substitutecandidate for three scholarships, and two substitute candidates for four ormore scholarships will be selected along with the principal candidates.
4- Candidateswho have Turkish language skills will be preferred.
5- If requiredby the Turkish Mission abroad, "A Scientific Research" form will befilled in by the applicants selected by the commission to provide the permissionfor research.
D- DOCUMENTS REQUIRED
1- Applicationforms. Applicants should state the name(s) of the University/ Universitieswhere they want to do research in order of preference. Forms should becompleted without leaving any blank areas, and filled in Turkish, English orFrench.
2- Copy ofUniversity Diploma or training certificate confirmed by the Turkish Missionabroad and their Turkish, English or French version. (Candidates whosescholarships are confirmed must submit their original diplomas when they cometo Turkey.)
3- A MedicalReport from an official institution stating that the candidate is medicallyeligible to carry on his/her studies in Turkey. (Medical Report should be takenfrom a state institution).
4- 3 photos.
5- Recommendation letters obtained from two professors in Turkish, English orFrench.
6- Programme ofstudy to be carried out by the applicant in Turkey in Turkish, English orFrench.
7- All documentswill be provided in four copies.
E- ACCEPTANCE ANDRELATED MATTERS
1- The finaldecision on the acceptance of the candidates is made by the Turkishauthorities.
2- Participants'documents should be delivered to the Turkish Ministry of National Educationthrough diplomatic channels by 31 July 2005 the latest .
3- Incompletedocuments and documents arriving later than July 31, 2005 will not beconsidered.
4- Places forresearch at the universities are provided after the receipt of theparticipants' documents by the Ministry of National Education. Therefore,scholars should not set out for Turkey before they are informed throughdiplomatic channels about their acceptance.
5- Researcherswill have to do their study at the institutions determined in our invitationnote. The institutions cannot be changed after the researchers' arrival inTurkey.
6- Officiallyinvited candidates should obtain "Educational visa" from the TurkishDiplomatic Mission abroad before coming to Turkey.
7- Officiallyinvited candidates should notify the Turkish authorities of their dates ofarrival 10 days before their departure for Turkey.
