The School of Civil Engineering and theEnvironment at the University of Southampton is a world class centre ofresearch excellence, awarded the highest grade (5*) in UK's lastResearch Assessment Exercise.

We are internationally recognised forfocussing on and carrying out challenging, innovative,industry-relevant cutting-edge research. As a result we are verysuccessful in attracting substantial funding from the industry, UKResearch Councils, government organisations and the EU, as shown by ourannual research turnover (in excess of £3M) and the value of researchgrants currently active (£6M).

The research activity of the Schoolencompasses all areas of Civil and Environmental Engineering and isstructured in five Divisions:

Environment Division
Geomechanics Division
Hydraulics, Coastal and Offshore Division
Structures and Construction Division
Transportation Division

PhD Research Scholarships are available forOctober 2005, funded by the School of Civil Engineering and theEnvironment. Applicants should have a 1st or 2.1 class degree (orequivalent) in engineering or physical sciences.
