PhD Position in empirical, social psychologist, ETH Zurich
We are looking for a psychologist - empirical, social psychologist - asa PhD student in the project "Investors construct lifestyles"
Start date: 1 July, 2005.
The project has an inter- and transdisciplinary character and isdirected by the consulting firm ecos based in Basel and co-directed bythe Chair of Natural and Social Science Interface at ETH Zürich and thePlanning Department of the City of Basel.
The project plan launches three (quasi)experimental studies onclassifying and assessing the lifestyle concepts of investor groups(representing investors' mental models) and measuring consensus anddissension among key agents of a large urban development project in thecity of Basel. In addition to experimental work, the project includestransdisciplinary activities such as consensus building workshops,
city dialogues, and other types of theory-practice interactions.
The candidate is expected to actively participate in these parts of theproject. We are looking for a diploma/master student with a strongtheoretical and practical background in inferential and multivariatestatistics. S/he should have experience in experimental design butshould also be interested in investigating complex real-world problemswith respect to urban development. Openness with respect to
investors and financial behaviour, as well as an interest insustainability issues is required. The candidate is expected to bestrongly committed and dedicated right to the very end of the projectas a whole (project duration: 3 years). This is due to thetransdisciplinary character of the project and the intense involvementof different stakeholder groups.
The working place will be in the social science decision making groupof the NSSI at ETH Zürich. The PhD student will be part of a projectteam composed of two PhD students supervised and coached by a group ofproject leaders drawn from the aforementioned agencies. The ‘paperdissertation' will be composed of three contributions to internationaljournals in the fields of environmental and cognitive psychology and inthe planning sciences. Literacy in German and English is required.
