PhD position Environmental Economics
There is a vacancy for a PhD position within the chair group Environmental Economics and Natural Resources, part of the department of Social Sciences of Wageningen University. The position relates to the project trade-offs between adaptation and mitigation, and the stability of international climate agreements・ The aim of the project is to investigate the influence of adaptation strategies on the formation and stability of International Climate Agreements (ICAs). An applied game-theoretic model is used to analyse coalition formation in combination with an Integrated Assessment Model (IAM) to identify efficient climate policy at a regional level. The first innovation is that adaptation options are explicitly accounted for in an IAM. The second innovation concerns the impact of trade-offs between adaptation and mitigation on the formation and stability of ICAs. Furthermore, the project analyses possibilities to improve the stability of coalitions via compensating payments and/or issue-linking. The successful candidate should have a Masters degree in (environmental) economics and demonstrated affinity with quantitative methods and model studies. Furthermore, he/she should have good communicative skills and be able to work in a team.
