The research concerns innovative developmentsin the production and application of concrete and concrete products.The research focuses on the development and handling of earth-moist andSelf-Compacting Concrete. The mixes are based on ideas recentlydeveloped by the research group. An important aspect is the particlesize distribution of the mix, from 32mm to the nanometre range. Basedon underlying theory, European building codes, and the constructionindustry's needs, new types of concrete will be developed. The studywill also include research, evaluation and application of alternativeingredients (especially granite). Besides this, the successfulcandidate will develop new measurement and processing techniques. Unitoperations such as mixing and compacting (vibrating) are an integralpart of the research project. Earth-moist and Self-Compacting Concretewill be developed that meets the current trends in raw materials use,production techniques, working conditions and market conditions.

Excellent computational facilities and a well-equipped concretelaboratory are available for this research project. Adjacent to thisproject, research is carried out in cement hydration and in high-techconcrete. Scientific institutions and the industrial sector have showngreat interest in this study, which is financed by and carried out witha consortium of industrial partners. The research group maintains closecontacts with construction industry and public authorities, andregularly convenes with their representatives that form our user group.Furthermore, there is frequent and intensive contact with otherresearchers, both domestic and abroad (mostly Europe and China).

Required education/skills:University Graduate

A MSc degree, or equivalent (in civil engineering, mechanicalengineering, earth sciences, physics, chemical engineering, or similardiscipline) and that you have experience/interest in theoretical andexperimental work. The ideal candidate will show an ability to developand maintain good working relationships with external contacts and haveexcellent communication skills, particularly in written and spokenEnglish.

We offer an interesting temporary research position in a dynamic andinternational environment. You will be appointed for a period of oneyear, with an assessment within one year. A positive assessment willsecure the continuation of the appointment for another three years. Thesalary starts at €1.813,- gross per month increasing to €2.394,-(September 2005) gross per month in the fourth year.
