Otago International Masters' Scholarships
The University of Otago offers a range of prestigious scholarships for postgraduate study. International students of outstanding ability are invited to apply for one of these scholarships. To be eligible for the award of a scholarship students must:
- be citizens or permanent residents of countries other than New Zealand, Australia, France and Germany
- meet all academic and English language requirements necessary for admission to the University
- be offered a place in full time Master's programme by research only or PhD on-campus in New Zealand
These scholarships will be awarded to students of outstanding academic merit to undertake a one year master's by research only. Remuneration for the scholarship for 2005 is not yet confirmed but is expected to be as follows:
- Up to four new scholarships per year
- Full tuition fee coverage for one year of research study
- An annual emolument of NZ$13,000 for living costs up to a maximum of one year
Selection Guidelines
- Selection is based on academic merit. No interview is required.
- Scholarships are available to students from all countries except Australia, France and Germany for whom separate scholarship provision is available (see Otago Postgraduate Awards & Scholarships).
- Students already in receipt of a full scholarship covering tuition fees and living costs are ineligible
Application Procedures
A separate application form is required for this Scholarship for students intending to study at Otago in 2006. The application form will be available on this website from early August 2005.
In addition to the scholarship application applicants must complete a
Postgraduate International Students application (PDF format - 257 K) to the University, and be accepted for a course of study before an Award or Scholarship is granted. Further information on the academic application process is available under Application Process.
Notes:
- Masters by thesis study can be commenced at any time of the year. It is anticipated that most scholarships will be taken up at the beginning of the first semester, or at the beginning of the second semester
- The scholarship must be taken up no later than the 1 September in the year for which it is offered.
Notification
Scholarship offers will normally be mailed by the second week of December.
