Norway: PhD Research Fellowships in Information Technology, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU)
Faculty of Information Technology, Mathematics, and Electrical Engineering at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) invites applicants for 6 PhD research fellowships, from July ‘07.
The fellowships are intended for PhD studies and are open to applicants in all areas of research covered by the 6 different Faculty departments:
- Department of Computer and Information Science
- Department of Cybernetic Engineering
- Department of Electronics and Telecommunications
- Department of Mathematical Sciences
- Department of Electric Power Engineering
- Department of Telematics
The 6 research fellowships are awarded on a competitive basis, to help recruit talented candidates for the PhD study programs administered by IME. These programs comprise the following fields of research; communication technology, computer science, cybernetics, electronics, information science, mathematics, power engineering and statistics. Collaboration with researchers from other areas of science and engineering at NTNU, as well as with external partners from industry, research institutes, and other universities (Norway and abroad) is commonplace. Further information on IME and its 6 departments is available at http://www.ime.ntnu.no.
The Faculty is keen to attract the best candidates available and puts few restrictions on training background and fields of research. Applicants must however contact a relevant research group at IME and name a prospective thesis supervisor prior to submitting their application. The final selection of candidates will be subject to considerations of thematic spread across the departments at IME.
Applicants must have completed a master degree (MSc, MEng) or provide documentation of equivalent training in a field relevant to research pursued at one of IME’s departments, and must satisfy the formal grades requirements for admission to the PhD studies at NTNU. See http://www.ime.ntnu.no/Dr.gradsstudier/ for detailed information on the PhD programs administered by IME.
PhD fellowships at NTNU are normally awarded for a total of 4 years, incl. 25% (1 man-year) of teaching assistance at the bachelor and master’s degree level. These duties are commonly distributed over the 4 years, with a larger proportion in the first two years.
