New Zealand: PhD Studentship in Laser Spectroscopy
PhD studentship: ultra-sensitive laser spectroscopyVictoria University of Wellington, Raman laboratoryField(s): chemical physics
Application deadline: Sep 12 (Tue), 2006
A Ph.D funced by the McDiarmind Institute is available in the opticalof metallic nanoparticles to be used as substrates for SurfaceEnhanced Raman Scattering (SERS) under the supervision of Assoc. Prof.P. G. Etchegoin and Dr. R. Tilley. Victoria has an active group inSurface Enhanced Raman Scattering (for recent publications see theweb-page of the lab: www.vuw.ac.nz/raman). The project will involvethe manufacturing, characterisation, and use of novel metallicinterlinked structures to be used in single molecule SERS as well asmodelling of their electromagnetic properties. The project involvesthe use of state of the art electron-microscopy and Raman spectroscopyfacilities at the McDiarmind Institute. A strong background inchemical-physics / physical-chemistry as well as optical spectroscopy/microscopy is highly desirable, but not essential.
